Things to do in Downtown Kansas City this Spring

We made it through the winter! Now go enjoy the warmer weather at these Kansas City locations perfect for spring!

This winter was absolutely brutal. Between the snowfall starting in early November, to the snowstorm after snowstorm after weird weather in general in December, January, and February, to the two inches of ice, to the polar vortex, there were times when we thought it would never get warm again. Thankfully that wasn’t the case and it seems that spring is finally showing up! We still can’t rule out the possibility of snow again, but with the rising temperatures, we can finally start to think about spring in downtown Kansas City. If you’re not sure what to do this season in KCMO keep reading for some ideas!

Annual Events

Downtown Kansas City always has events going on, and springtime is no exception. Are you a wine aficionado (or just pretend to be one)? Get tickets to the annual Downtown Wine Walk in the Power & Light District to enjoy live music, wine tastings, and small plates from participating venues. If you’re more of a beer drinker check out the KC Nanobrew Festival that’s helped bring local brewers and the public together since 2010. Another longstanding KCMO festival is the KC Film Fest, held every spring since 1997, where you can screen films and meet filmmakers from KC and all over the world.

Local Restaurants

One of life’s simple pleasures is walking to a local restaurant on a nice day and enjoying your meal on the patio. Summit on Quality Hill residents can enjoy this even more by getting discounts on local joints thanks to the Neighborhood Passport Program. Stop by AeroJuice on your walk home from yoga, or meet up with some friends for some drinks and dinner at Johnny’s Tavern. For a night out head over to John’s Big Deck, the only rooftop deck in Kansas City.

Sports

Kansas City is also a great place for sports, especially in the springtime. The Kansas City Royals Opening Day is the perfect time to check out Kauffman Stadium. This year Opening Day is on March 28th against the Chicago White Sox. If you’re a college basketball fan you’re also in luck! Both the Big 12 Tourney and the Midwest Regional games for March Madness, so you can cheer on your teams as they battle for the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 spots!
