Downtown Kansas City is fantastic no matter what time of
year it is, but summer is especially special. Not only are you no more than 20
minutes away from a hike, KCMO also offers plenty of places in the city to
explore while the weather’s warm. For those of you who aren’t as thrilled with
the heat an humidity, check out our previous blogs about Fall,
Winter,
and Spring
activities and look forward to your favorite season in Kansas City!
Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
With events, exhibits, and courses nearly every day, the
Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is the perfect summer destination. Try your hand at
mini-golf in an interactive art exhibit like no other. The 9-hole course is
artist designed and fun for all ages, and on Fridays order a picnic dinner from
Terrace Snack Bar. Speaking of picnics, the museum also hosts Kansas City’s largest
picnic with the help of KC Parks & Rec. Take a look at all the exhibits and
events on their website, and keep up
with everything in real time by following them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Hot Country Nights
KC Live! is the go-to spot in the Power & Lights
district for live music all year long, but in the summertime Miller Lite sponsors
Hot Country Nights each Thursday along with Q104 and Midwest Ford Dealers. Most
shows are free, but check out the website before heading out because there are
a few dates that require tickets. For those 21+ upgrade to VIP for options like
VIP Terrace, Club 150, and The Level Up Deck. For more information or to
purchase tickets and VIP upgrades, go to their website.
And follow the Power & Light District on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube to keep an eye on
other summer happenings!
Union Station
For over 100 years Union Station has been a hub of
culture, education, and entertainment. Today you can enjoy 3D movies, explore
Science City, visit traveling exhibits, or grab a cup of coffee or meal with a
friend. Built in 1914, Union Station is still a working train station over a
century later, where you can experience history like very few places can offer.
This summer as you’re walking around downtown KCMO make sure to stop at Union
Station to take in history and entertainment like nowhere else. Learn more
about the station itself as well as a full calendar of events on their website, and follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube as well.
City Market Square
Another downtown KCMO staple year-round is City Market
Square. A unique mix of shops and boutiques offer a quaint meetup spot, not to
mention summer events like First Fridays. The City Market is also home to the
region’s largest Farmer’s Market to showcase local fruits, veggies, and other
produce to liven up your summer table. Take in the history of commerce and trading,
rallies, revivals, circuses, and more dating back to the mid-19th
century. Find out what’s going on this week as well as a full list of summer
events on their website, then head
over to Facebook,
Instagram, and Twitter to follow the City
Market on social media.
