Macabre Cinema Haunted House – Downtown Kansas City, MO
Fans of horror movies won’t want to miss this attraction on the southeast corner of 12th and Mulberry street in downtown Kansas City in West Bottoms. The attraction itself is a 45 minute to an hour walkthrough set in a “haunted 1930s movie theater”. More than 30 dramatic scenes across 4 floors, and a dungeon for the bravest visitors, pay homage to contemporary and classic horror films. Using exquisite sets, dramatic lighting and detailed costumes the actors at Macabre Cinema Haunted House will send chills up and down your spine. Halloween Haunt – Worlds of Fun, Kansas City, MO
Visit Kansas City’s Worlds of Fun as darkness falls to see the popular amusement park transform into an eerie, fog-filled, haunt. Open Friday and Saturday nights through October 27th, the Halloween Haunt at Worlds of Fun gives a creepier, more adult feel to a classic amusement park. Experience your favorite rides in the dark and misty evening light and dodge over 400 monsters skulking around the park. Worlds of Fun recommends buying tickets online and does not recommend this attraction for visitors under 14.
Weston Red Barn Farm – Weston, MO
Fall isn’t just about nighttime frights. Take a step back in time at the Weston Red Barn Farm. The curators of this attractions aim to replicate the feel of a real working farmstead, complete with livestock and crops. In the fall, enjoy their Fall Festival to get a feel for what it was like to bring in the harvest. Enjoy a hayride to a large pumpkin patch and pick your pumpkin or fill a basket with apples right off the tree. Weston Red Barn Farm also has a Pumpkin Market in a 150-year-old mule barn which features specialty gourds, pumpkins, squash and other seasonal decor. There is also a corn maze on site. Proceeds from the corn maze are donated to Farmer’s House, a local organization that aids children and adults with disabilities.
Alldredge Orchards – Platte City, MO
For a more contemporary, no frills, look at fall produce, visit Alldredge Orchards in Platte City, MO. Alldredge offers “U-Pick” apples on Saturdays and Sundays in September and October. Pumpkin picking runs Saturdays and Sundays in October. Leisurely stroll to the pumpkin patch or catch the hayride that runs from the main site to the pumpkin patch. Before you leave, check out the barn store and stock up on fall favorites like local honey or gorgeous mums.
Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead – Overland Park, KS
A favorite among many Kansas City families, the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead emulates a turn of the century Kansas farm. Visit over 200 different animals, the fishing pond and vegetable and flower gardens. In the fall, the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead hosts Pumpkin Hollow where children can enjoy one of the best pumpkin patches in Kansas as well as a tractor ride, hay slides and a hay maze. Nearer to Halloween, enjoy the Night of the Living Farm event that includes a fortune teller, scavenger hunt and marshmallow roast.
